News flash!
Mark
used his
amateur
radio equipment to make contact with retired radio talk show
host
Art Bell (W6OBB)
in Pahrump, Nevada, on March 25, 2014, at 9 PM. Art was on 14.2535
MHz upper sideband when Mark (WØMH)
just happened across the signal, hearing just "OBB." That sparked
his interest and sure enough, it was Art. Mark called with just 400
watts into an inverted-V antenna at 65 feet and Art answered on the
first transmission using a horizontal loop antenna. The signal both
ways was excellent and the conversation lasted more than five
minutes. By then other hams wanted to talk to Art too.
For years Mark heard Art Bell on the
Coast to
Coast AM nationwide and international overnight radio talk
show. The subjects varied from the paranormal to UFOs. Most of the
show was of little interest to Mark except when Art interviewed
astronauts and scientists. What kept him listening was Art's
style. He is an entertainer and even more fun to talk to on amateur
radio.
