Saturday, December 7, 2013:
Mark and Paula dined at the
Gingerhop Restaurant in
northeast Minneapolis. They serve Thai food that is excellent.
Yes, chopsticks were used that night. Not bad once you get used to them. |
Joke of the day: There is a Taiwanese beer called Tie One On! |
Then it was off to the Columbia Heights Theatre on the north end of Minneapolis. Why were they there? |
Theatre goers hardly get in the front door when they are serenaded by live Christmas music on a piano. What other theatre do you know where they do that? |
One of the main attractions at the Heights is a Wurlitzer
organ which is played in front of the movie screen for twenty or more minutes
before a show. The organ lowers below the screen just before the movie starts. |
It had a great sound that filled the theatre. The place was packed. You need to reserve a seat in advance for many performances. |
Then a singer came on stage to
entertain with Christmas music. She was accompanied by a piano and was terrific. Great applause too. |
People who were around in the 1930's, 40's and 50's will
remember singing along to the "bouncing ball." Where do you see that anywhere else today? |
Finally, the movie started. It was
White Christmas from 1954 starring Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye.
The story line starts during World War II and continues on into the mid-1950's. A funny and heart-warming movie. |
Quote of the day: This may become an annual tradition for us. Mark | < Back to previous story | Ahead to next story > |
