![]() Tuesday, May 13, 2025: The story of restoring a family heirloom trunk started on January 30, 2025. Paula decided it would be a good winter project. ![]() This trunk dates back to the early 1900s and was in despirate need of care, especially the metal hardware. ![]() Paula used an electric sander and then sanded by hand. It was dusty work so she wore a face mask. ![]() Then it was time to add a mix of stain and oil to finish the surface. She did this several times in the heated garage to keep fumes out of the house. ![]() Paula drilled pilot holes for nails to fasten the shiney new brass hardware. ![]() More touch-up wood stain and the trunk was out on the deck to air out. The apron she was wearing came from the Duluth Trading Company. ![]() Paula was happy to be done with the project when spring came. Likely there were over 100 hours of work, over three and one half months, to make this happen. |
